Artist statement:
My earlier work consisted of taking photographs of unique individuals encountered on the streets of London and subsequently painting them by drawing inspiration from people and their distinctive sense of style. With no intention of critiquing certain classes or stereotypes, painting becomes more about investing in the qualities of the individual. With an entire catalogue of fashion references these people construct their own niche through which to express themselves. The individuals represented hint at trends which reach far beyond the domain of the high street shop, by utilising past and present subcultures, far away cultures and the abstract cultures.
